UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

im blogging now..because i cant sleep...why am i sleeping so early?...well..during the holidays...11 o'clock is early in my opinion... im sleeping because there is a UEFA Champions League Football Match later...at 2 30 am...so im just preserving my energy...so that i will be more awake when watching it later.... i wun wanna b sleeping halfway through the match...

Anyways...the match im gonna watch later is... FC Porto V Liverpool FC...at the Estadio do Dragao Stadium in Portugal....This is one of the opening matches of this season's Champions League Tournament... and Liverpool FC are one of the favourites wo win the tournament..after getting to 2 Finals in 3 years.... Now that is a rather difficult feat to achieve in mordern-day football..

In case some of you who don't know what the champions league is...it is actually a club football tournament...featuring the finest teams in Europe...where they will battle it out for the Champions League Trophy and claim the right to be Kings/Champions of Europe ... If you are looking for a tournament which features all the world famous football players in the world?...well...the Champions League is THE tournament....Throughout its history..it has seen great players lift the trophy...such as Zinedine Zidane, Eusebio, Ronaldinho, Paolo Maldini, Alfredo Di Stefano, Franz Beckanbauer and last but not least, Steven GERRARD...yeap..

These are some of the best players in the world... and the team which have lifted the trophy the most number of times...is Real Madrid CF...the team from the Spanish Capital...
They have lifted it a record 9 times....and they are looking to add a tenth trophy to their already glittering trophy cabinet at the Santiago Bernabeu(their stadium)

Followed by Real Madrid, is Italian Giants AC Milan...yeap
They lifted their seventh trophy last season when they won liverpool 2-1 in athens...the thought of it still hurts me...anyways... they will of course want to be the first team to win consecutive champions league trophies...and it will take something special to dethrone the current holders...

Next up is of course Liverpool FC...they are my favourite team...as you all know... and they have won it 5 times...it could have been 6 times though...had they won it last season...and this season...even though they are focusing their attention to the English Premier League Title...they can never be written off...such is their prestige and history in the tournament...and with the help of new signing fernando torres...who is to say they wont win both the champions league and the English Premier League :) ..haha

as for the other teams...its
Bayern Munich 4
Ajax Amsterdam 4
FC Barcelona 2
Manchester United 2
Benfica 2
FC Porto 2
Nottingham Forest 2

thats all that i can think of at the moment....there are more actualli...haha...but i guess..my eyes are closing now..hehe...gtg... BYEEE

NEW SKIN :)

HAHA..yeap.. i just changed my blogskin.... found this skin...which as you can see its all about snow...and yeah..i find that Winter is definetely my favourite season of the year....haha.. its the time of the year where u can look at the beautiful snow falling down from the sky and build snow-mans hahaha..moreover...you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery with your loved ones....and play in the snow...

In fact i love movies or shows which has winter and snow in it...feels so comfortable... How i wish Singapore had snow...but...it will never happen...not unless it changes its position on the map...so...in the mean time...i can only dream....haha.... :)

i just finished watching a korean drama..its called Tree of Heaven...it has 12 episodes....but im telling you its a really nice show....i would say its a combination of Stairway to Heaven and Winter Sonata...yeah...that should tell you how good it is.. the ending is rather sad....gotta say..i was feelin veri sad when i watched the last episode...korean dramas are always that typical...sad Endings....

yeah..in the mean time...do give comments on the new blogskin...hehe... :)

Frustration

This post was actualli meant for yesterday's early morning events. But i guess i didnt feel like blogging yesterday, so i decided to blog about it today instead.

Yesterday was the St John Ambulance Brigade Zone 9 Footdrill Competition 2007 and my secondary school was taking part in it. I'm sure most of you know that i am an instructor for my secondary school's St John corps.... and that i would go back to train the cadets on their footdrill... even after i have graduated from m secondary school.... my 3 other secondary friends terence, chin guan and leon had also gone back to train them..(we were in the same cca)

However due to recent events...such as the recent OBS course...i couldnt find the time to go back to train them for yesterday's competition and when i went to yesterday's competition which was held in Clementi Town Secondary School.... i was hoping the cadets would try their best... and don't think about whether they could get 1st or 2nd....

After they completed their turn... which i was quite frustrated but yet guilty...i thought...they had done their best.... Considering the fact that most of them were relatively inexperienced in this competition..and that they were lower -secondary students...save for mayb a few...who were sec 3s.... their footdrill was certainly not up to standard...and their dressing was in a mess...however... instead of commenting on their performance...i instead consoled them..and told them not to quarrel with each other and that they have tried their best.... Last but not least...also reminded them that there is still next year....

After that me,terence and chin guan went to take a look at the other team's performances...we saw one school which had almost perfect drills....xcept for 1 or 2 mistakes..otherwise...their performance was almost flawless...

Den chin guan was jokingly telling me that i was too busy to come down to train them...and mayb was telling me that i could have contributed more to their training... and mayb it might have made a small difference with regards to our performance...i guess he was right... i should have prioritise my time....gotta improve my time management and fast...

The task of training the cadets for the footdrill competition was to be handled by the 4 of us...and i admit there were times where we under a significant amount of stress...as we tried to ensure they were ready for the competition... Things did not go to plan however...There were many cadets who withdrew at the very last min...and the time was a factor....didnt have enough time....
but i shouldn't give excuses...we should also shoulder part of the blame....

After we left...i was thinking about the competition...n i was feelin angry with myself..angry that i didn't really do much for them...angry at why i wasnt able to make the most of the time i had with them....

Upon reflection...i feel that as instructors...we should portray an image of leadership and i guess i can apply what i've learnt during the OBS during the weekly trainings when i will surely make the effort to come down for training...and mayb make some amendments to the training....make it tougher? perhaps and also impose ourselves on them...let them know we hv a nice side and a not so nice side...where we will b stricter and fiercer...

Yea..guess its time i should do what an SJAB instructor should do and review my role as one... no more slacking around and ..although of course we should also have moments of laughter with them...

'On The Side of Me'

I'm not the easiest person to love
I'm often the one who lets things go unresolved

Yet you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
Yet you choose to be on the side of me
on the side of me

I'm not too proud of some things
I've done in my life
The skeletons in my closet
Are too big for me to hide

Yet you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
Blessed Charity
You're on the side of me
on the side of me

Cos everyone needs a friend to hold
when it's cold outside
and there's no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
all alone I cried
there was no place to go
I remember when nobody cared
but you

I'm not the easiest person to love
But you, you've opened your heart to show me what I'm worth

'Cause you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me
What a mystery
You're on the side of me
on the side of me

Everyone needs a friend to hold
when it's cold outside
and there's no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold
all alone I cried
there was no place to go

I remember when nobody cared
Nobody cared
But you...

Yeah you choose to be
on the side of me
on the side of me

IM BACK!!!

Yea! I'm back from my 7-day OBS course!haha... yeap it was one hell of a course!!! haha.. through this course i really learnt alot about leadership and discovered more about myself..even though i have walked this earth for 17 years... there are still some parts of me that i have yet to discover... This course has really been a journey of self-discovery... one that i have never embarked on prior to this course... I shall now share this journey with everyone... :)

1st Day
We arrived at OBS Main Campsite at on pulau ubin via a ferry from punggol jetty. we were then introduced to our instructor. His name is Gideon. He looked kinda cool with his long hair.haha.. then we started off by introducing more about ourselves to him. Then we began the first of our activities.Yeap..we learnt how to tie some ropes such as reef knot n etc... haha...yeap..den after that we proceed on to learning how to belay when someone is doing rock climbing or other activites which require it.

After that.. we were off to the challenge course which was in the form of the ship which Sir Stamford Raffles arrived in Singapore in. The challenge was to climb up to one of the high points and walk without any support but ur rope n belayer, in mid-air with shaky wooden planks dangling precariously. I was the first one to try the highest point. I was seriously very scared. I was kinda reluctant to walk. and whenever i wanted to walk i would always take a step back. I was afraid to face up to my fear of doing such challenge courses. However, with the help of my fellow OB peeps... i managed to complete it..even though i was the slowest to complete it... Thanks Guys and Gideon!haha..i realli appreaciated ur support n encouragement..hhahaha!!!

And as for our bunks, it was more like a chalet actualli with beds which were sleepable and toilet which kinda nice.hahaha..lolz Actualli

2nd Day

Woke up had breakfast and all. Found that the food there was quite okie...actualli... had bee hoon and some fish cake.... n for lunch it was rice with some other side dishes like chicken/fish and veggies and soup. hahaha...but it was outdoor cooking for lunch that day.

The main highlight of the day was actualli kayaking. However the day was spoilt with thunderstorms around the island.so we couldnt do much activities . We had a theory on different types of leadership and the OBS staff who was giving us the lecture was realli funny!! and we had an enjoyable time plus there was air con....haha..

Gideon also introduce us to our cutter sail which we would be sailing on for the next 3 days. It's name was Endeavour. What a cool name. Think it really fits our purpose for our coming to this course.

Later that night we had to prepare everything that was necessary for our cutter sailing expedition which was gonna last 3 days 2 nights... so that means no bathing time..haha

3rd Day

Cutter Sailing!! haha.. i was so looking forward to it..that i couldnt wait to get onto the sail the moment i got up!!hahaha.... but when we went onto the Cutter ( its the name of the ship which we would embark upon our 3d 2n expedition on!! ahaha.... however it was not to be initially..
when we began to sail..i wasnt feeling veri well... and my head was spinning and i felt like vomitting..everyone was realli concerned...haha..thanks for the concern guys....den gideon told me to try sniffing Orange skin..to suppress the nausea feeling...well it certainly did help...den for the journey i did that...so it wasnt so bad till we reach our destination for the night which was a small island near pulau ubin... we camped there and had our field cooking dinner there....hahaha...

4th Day

This was one of the highlights of the Course..the day started off rather well...by having our morning dip into the water to kiss the bow..as a sailing tradition to pray for more wind for the rest of the day.We then continued our expedition along the way there were a few storms..but we managed to come through them peacefully... even though we had to have our lunch in the rain...hhaha...
Since the first day of the expedition...we managed to learn a few sailing commands...such as Crew prepare to tack! which was to change the direction the cutter is sailing and also Crew prepare to jibe! which kinda meant the same thing... the second day was better for me in the sense that the sea-sickness wasn't that strong... but i still sniffed orange skin lolz..

However the worst storm was to come....while sailing near the OBS main Camp...there was a sudden storm! and we had to deal with it immediately...the howling wind and the choppy waters were making our job veri difficult..n i realli admire Gideon...because he was able to guide us without even showing a hint that he was panicking...But the wind was just too strong that we couldnt control the boat at all... In the end we almost capsized... But at that moment my mind was filled with nothing but the main aim of helping to stabilize and control the cutter....all my sea sickness was gone at that moment...

And as they say...there is always a silver lining behind a cloud...we managed to get through the storm... hahaha...woah..n we realli showed team work by helping to roll the sails when needed during the storm....hahahaa.yeap.thats wad OB n leadership is all about!!hahaha

So for the night we slept on the cutter where we anchored it near the OBS campsite 2...

5th Day

2 more days left... i counted..and the day was kinda...slack... Samuel was the group leader for the day... he was trying to best to lead us in sailing to Ceck Java which was at the other side of pulau ubin.... but everyone was kinda tired..so in the end we didnt manage to sail there... we then marked the end of our Cutter Sailing Expedition by returning to the OBS main camp...
later that night we had to trek all the way to OBs camp 2 to camp there...n samuel realli showed his leadership by constantly encouraging us along the way and singing cheers all that!! .hahaha..
waoh...i realli saw a whole new Samuel... hahahah...

6th Day

Second last day... hahah....and it proved to be the most tiring of all...because we had to kayak 23km from campsite 2 all the way to Ceck Java n back..to the middle, cut through the swamps and kayak back all the way to camp 2!!... When we reach Ceck Java we were alreadi tired.... and my arm was aching badly... den we still had to kayak back n thru the swamps...we were stuck there for i think 2 hrs.... OMG...that was when i felt all the strength in my body had left me...but.... i still told myself to go on... n my kayaking mates who were kai hoow and jocelyn did the same....when we finally got out of the swamp and went pass the green light which meant the OBS campsite...was near....i was REallli relieved n happy....n we summoned my last ounce of strenghth to kayak back to the campsite....

What a tiring day.... when we went back to the main camp....we juz went to sleep... haha..everyone was realli tired!!.haha

Last Day

hahah..well...our last day on the island....it has been an amazing journey so far...haha..yeapp... the memories are just so priceless.... haha...yeaps.... when the guys woke up..we found our body filled with marker drawings..done by none other than the girls when we were sleeping....n i tink i got the most drawings...i had both on my hind legs, on my face, ears and arms..omg...n they said that they even lifted my leg up 3 times....n i couldnt feel it...hahha....i was tooo tired.... man!! .....what do u expect hahaha..... nvm.. i will hv my revenge... mount Stong expediton next month.....hahah.watch out.. hehe.... we then left the island at about 2 plus... we took one last look at the island and the main camp....this was where we had a fun-filled,challenging and amazing 7 days... Woah...im sure the bond between us wil have become stronger after this course..yeap..hahah....and thanks Gideon....for ur guidance...we certainly have learnt lots of things from you!!!hahah... Im sure gonna miss OBS 2007...hahaha... OBS ROCKS!!!! hahaha...
